Here's what is present for me, I am on Day 8 of a 21 of a colon/ candida cleanse. Just a wee bit of back story. I had been feeling dense, sluggish in energy, dulled, foggy, and emotionally down after the holiday indulgence. Oh and cranky, really cranky. What one my favorite teachers and dear friend Dr. Yvonne Farrell likes to say, cranky pissy. I turned to my ever expanding tool belt and realized that it was time to return to my roots of food, and clean up my diet. It had been almost 2 years that I had done any kind of cleanse, so I was quite ripe for it.
I picked this one out of the many cleanses that are out there because its food based. Food really is the best medicine. I get to eat as much as we want, just restricted. I am adding my own knowledge of macrobiotic cooking, Chinese medicine, kitchari cleansing and juicing to come up with a grand plan.
The Plan-
Cleaning out the colon, including any candida overgrowth, re-booting the flora in our intestines, and eating the most vibrant and nutrient dense yet still digest-able foods. A minimal of 3 weeks of cleansing 2 times a day with a mixture of Bentonite Magma, Psyllium husks, and Caproyl oil. Eating a nutrient rich and restricted diet. A re-commitment to daily meditation and yoga practice.
The Diet-
Lets start with what you can't have, because that is often the sticking/ stopping point. No caffeine, sugar (of any kind, including most fruits, carrots and beets), dairy, or alcohol. VERY limited grains. Complex grains, like quinoa, millet and buckwheat are acceptable on rotation.
What you can have, vegetables, legumes, some nuts and seeds, eggs, some complex grains, limited fish, avocados, and goat cheese! (Thank goodness for goat cheese!) For those meat eaters, you can eat it as long as its organic, free range and you chew well.
*For a complete list of foods for the restriction diet go to the site and great resource. This is also where I source the cleansing materials.

The Routine-
First thing in the morning make the drink of clay, psyillum and oil. Drink it down, and sit for meditation, breath work. Wait at least 1 hour before eating breakfast. Get 1 green veg juice in a day, consisting of red chard, green chard, spinach, dill, cilantro, dikon, lemon, ginger, collard greens...basically as much green as possible. (some may have to build up to this, as it can be a bit nauseating at first, due to it being so much cold, that is why the ginger helps)
Practice yoga/ hike or Bike. (or some form of exercise)
Take 1 capsule acidophilus (on empty stomach).
(Here is where it gets individualized as to what supplements/ herbs and vitamins are added in to support each unique digestive system)
Eat a full breakfast, lunch and dinner, with the biggest meal being mid day.
Throughout the day drink detox teas (Pau D"Arco tea (anti-fungal), Roobios tea (anti oxidant), and plenty of water.
1-2 hours after dinner drink the 2nd drink of clay, oil and husks.
Bed time.
Just as a side note.... about day 3 the cravings for sugar where almost completely gone, and my moods have stabilized :-)!
With Love,
Dana
